Event 47 : 75th Anniversary of the film “Casablanca”

The Ben M’sik Community Museum in partnership with the US. Embassy in Morocco, celebrated the seventy-fifth anniversary of Casablanca at the Rick’s on November 18, 2017. The Rick’s Café opened its doors in 2004. The proprietor Kathy Kriger, a retired US Embassy employee, created this space to recall the Rick’s of Casablanca in the city of Casablanca. Set in an old courtyard-style mansion built within the walls of the Old Medina of Casablanca, the piano bar is filled with architectural and decorative details reminiscent of the film: curved arches, a sculpted bar, balconies, balustrades as well as beaded and stencilled brass lighting. 

To celebrate the seventy-fifth anniversary of Casablanca, a group of American guests were invited to give their testimonies. Among the panellists were the daughter of Paul Henreid, Monika Henreid, the American journalist and film historian Aljean Harmetz, and the actress and producer Jessica Rains. They shared their experiences and opinions concerning the cinematic merits of Casablanca with a group of students from the Faculty of Letters and Humanities Ben M’sik in Casablanca, Morocco, who had made a travelling exhibition “Morocco & the US. in the World War II.
